UPDATE: WOMAN IDENTIFIED – RCMP request to identify unconscious injured pedestrian in North Vancouver, BC

UPDATE: The woman has now been identified and is with her family, according to police.

RCMP in North Vancouver are asking for public assistance to help identify a woman who remains unconscious after being injured in a pedestrian collision just after 9:00 a.m. today.

The woman, who was struck while using a crosswalk on Capilano Road at Garden Avenue in North Vancouver, lost consciousness after striking her head. She was transported to local hospital in critical but stable condition. The woman has remained unconscious since being injured, and investigators have been unable to identify her.

“She has no identification with her, no phone, no wallet, nothing that would enable us to find out who she is,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries of North Vancouver RCMP. “It appears she was out for either a walk or a jog, so we theorize she is somehow connected to this area,” he said. “Someone might be calling around right now to friends and family, wondering where she is, worried about her. We’re hoping the public will help us connect with her family and loved ones.”

Due to privacy rules, police are unable to publish an image of the woman at this time. She is described as:

Female, possibly of Caucasian or First Nations descent
Light to medium complexion
70’s or early 80’s
Short (approx 1-2 inches), curly hair dyed black
Dark eyes
Slim-Medium build
Approx 5’4-5’6
Gold wedding band bearing indigenous art on left ring finger
Silver ring bearing indigenous art on left pinky finger

Wearing:

Generic black running top
Black leggings
Grey New Balance running shoes, women’s size 7

The collision investigation is continuing, however at this time speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Anyone who may have information about the woman’s identity, or who witnessed the collision, is asked to contact North Vacouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
