The Kelowna RCMP is investigating a scary incident that happened in the Rutland area Thursday afternoon.
According to police, an 11-year-old boy was walking home from school around 3:45 pm when a black four-door pickup truck pulled up alongside him as he crossed at Monterey Road and Springfield Road.
“The rear male passenger allegedly reached out an open window and grabbed the boy’s backpack, pulling him towards the truck,” said an RCMP release.
“The boy managed to escape and ran home without further incident. It is believed there were three occupants of the vehicle.”
RCMP say the man who allegedly tried to grab the boy is described as a man around 60 years old with a white goatee who was wearing a red bandana.
Since the incident happened, the RCMP has conducted interviews and canvassed the area as investigators work to identify those involved.
“At this time we don’t know the motivation or intention behind this incident,” said Cpl Jocelyn Noseworthy.
“The victim was extremely frightened by the events and we are appealing to the occupants of the vehicle, or anyone with information to come forward immediately and speak with us.”
