Update: Located Deceased – Still no word on missing 89-year-old Penticton woman, last seen one week ago
Sad update, Doreen has been located deceased. Our thought go out to her family and friends. https://missingpeople.ca/sad-update-missing-penticton-senior-found-deceased-no-criminality-suspected/
There has been no word on the whereabouts of a Penticton senior woman who has now been missing for a full week.
On Friday, Jan 27, 89-year-old Doreen Abbott failed to arrive at a friend’s house as expected. She has early stage dementia and rarely deviates from her normal routine.
Then, her car, a 1993 Subaru Legacy with BC licence plate MXH 063, was located on Greyback Mountain Road, stuck in the snow. Abbott was not in the car, nor was she found nearby.
RCMP and Search and Rescue crews scoured the area and police asked the public for any information, especially residents of Upper and Lower Bench Roads and Naramata Road and the surrounding areas who might have security footage between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. Jan. 27.
Penticton Search and Rescue manager Randy Brown said Friday that PenSAR crews were involved in an “extensive” operation that lasted through Tuesday of this week, after which RCMP told them to stand down.
They are not able to launch a search independent of RCMP command, but are ready to go as always should police request them for this or any other matter.
Castanet has reached out to RCMP for any updates they may be able to provide on the search, and will share those updates when possible.
Doreen Abbott is described as five-foot-three, 120 pounds with a thin build. She wears glasses and normally walks with a cane.
RCMP previously provided the following description of what Abbott is believed to have been wearing when she disappeared:
A dark green/blue ¾ length wool coat
Dark green/turquoise sweatpants
Black slip on shoes
Anyone with information is urged to call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
