🚨 REMAINS OF MISSING CALGARY BOY PARKER BELIEVED FOUND AFTER NEARLY TWO-WEEK SEARCH
Calgary police announced on Wednesday that searchers have located the body of a small child believed to be 11-year-old Parker, who had been missing for just under two weeks. Chief Katie McLellan stated it was an incredibly difficult day and confirmed the discovery with profound sadness.
On Tuesday, a member of the public reported evidence consistent with the clothing Parker was last known to be wearing. Search teams were deployed and located the body of a small child. Investigators believe Parker entered a deep culvert on the west side of Deerfoot Trail and made his way into a network of pipes that crossed under the freeway. His body was found in a small pipe on the east side of Deerfoot Trail.
The Calgary Fire Department required specialized equipment to enter the tunnel system because conditions were extremely unsafe. Search manager Sgt. Rich Wall said Parker was located at 2:30 p.m. MT on Wednesday, approximately 137 to 152 metres inside the tunnels and only about one kilometre from his last known location.
It is believed Parker was wearing the clothing he was last seen in when he entered the tunnels, though his shoes likely came off and washed out of the culvert. The renewed intensive search had focused on an area immediately west of Deerfoot Trail, just east of the Beaver Dam Business Park near Thorncliffe, involving a tributary of Nose Hill Creek that flows into a culvert.
Parker’s disappearance on July 16 from his day home on Connaught Drive N.W. triggered an exhaustive search involving hundreds of police officers, trained searchers, and thousands of volunteers. Investigators reviewed more than 600 tips and analyzed 100,000 individual CCTV clips from more than 650 cameras.
Chief McLellan noted the dedicated, extensive, and sustained search efforts and said the city had shown its very best. She expressed that behind every search map, briefing, tip, and hour spent looking was a little boy deeply loved by his family. Police grieve alongside Parker’s family, loved ones, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy.
