Ottawa Police say they are investigating a suspicious incident involving a man in a vehicle approaching kids and trying to get them into his vehicle.

On Friday, November 6 around 3:40 p.m., a man driving a long white SUV approached two children as they were exiting a park in the Marc Road and Second Line area of Kanata.

The man attempted to pull one of the kids into the van but got scared away.

He left the kids unharmed and drove away.

The man is described as Middle Eastern, 50-60 years old with dark hair, greying on the side. The SUV has a broken mirror and a peeling license plate.

Police were called and responded immediately but the suspect was not located.

Police are reminding parents to frequently review tips with children with respect to safety rules and what they should do in case they are approached by a stranger.

Kids walking alone should:

  • Ensure a family member or caregiver knows their route and arrival time
  • Not talk to strangers
  • Not accept rides from strangers
  • If an unknown adult is seeking your attention, do not approach them or their vehicle
  • If being followed, go to a public place, a known residence or shout for help.

Anyone with information or who was in the area at the time are asked to call the Ottawa Police Sexual Assault Child Abuse section at 613-236-1222 ext. 5944. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
