OPP warn about two alleged attempts to abduct children in Russell, Ontario

In the first attempt, on Tuesday at 5 p.m., a man went to a local day care and attempted to pick up a child when he did not have the authority to retrieve the youngster. According to police, the man referred to the child by their first name, but could not provide their last name. Day care staff phoned the child’s parents who confirmed that no one else was authorized to retrieve the child from the facility.

The second incident reported to police occurred on Wednesday at around 2:30 p.m. An unknown person driving an older black car slowed down and followed a child who was on their  bike on Concession Street and Craig Street in Russell. The windows and windshield were tinted so assistance is being sought from the public in helping to identify the vehicle. Police describe the vehicle as and older black compact car with tinted windows and a tinted windshield. It had dark rims and several rust spots.
