Social media comments about apparent attempted abductions in some Timmins neighbourhoods are stirring up anxiety in those areas.

However, Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie reports: “At present, the Timmins Police Service can confirm that there are no missing persons stemming from these incidents.”

Social media opinion based on unofficial information makes people in those areas unnecessarily nervous. Depatie says before you post about anything you see that is suspicious, dangerous or criminal, call police.

“You’re free to indulge in social media entertainment afterwards,” he notes, “but your first obligation as a responsible citizen is to notify police.”

He also advises good judgment or discretion with information from unofficial sources.

“Timmins Police Service continues to deploy appropriate resources in regards to these incidents, including but not limited to a thorough review of video surveillance material in the affected areas, and increased police presence as part of their general patrols.”
