Ryan Shtuka vanished in the early hours of February 17, 2018 after leaving a party on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. The 20-year-old had been working as a seasonal lift operator at Sun Peaks Resort and was originally from Beaumont, Alberta.
Ryan was last seen around 2:10 a.m. as he left the party intending to walk a short distance home. When he failed to show up for work later that day, concern quickly grew among his friends and family. By the evening, Ryan was reported missing, prompting a massive search by RCMP, search and rescue teams, and hundreds of volunteers.
Search efforts focused on the snowy terrain between the party location and Ryan’s residence. Despite using helicopters, dive teams, scent-tracking dogs, and even excavators, no physical trace of Ryan—no clothing, footprints, or scent trail—was ever discovered. Temperatures were around -20°C that night, adding urgency to the initial rescue attempts.
Theories surrounding Ryan’s disappearance have ranged from accidental hypothermia to possible foul play. A retired RCMP investigator who assisted the family expressed suspicion of homicide after speaking with one of Ryan’s friends, who appeared unusually afraid. Ryan a été vu pour la dernière fois vers 2h10 alors qu’il rentrait à pied d’une fête. Lorsqu’il ne s’est pas présenté à son travail le lendemain, ses amis et sa famille ont alerté les autorités. Plus de cinq ans plus tard, Ryan demeure porté disparu, sans aucune trace retrouvée. L’affaire est toujours non résolue.
