The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has confirmed that two children who were the subject of an Amber Alert have been safely located in West Kelowna, British Columbia, on September 17, 2026.
Lanakai and Karl had been reported missing on July 7, 2026. Investigators spent approximately two and a half months following leads and conducting searches across several jurisdictions, with the children’s safety remaining the primary concern.
As part of the investigation, two adults connected to the case were also located and arrested without incident on outstanding warrants. Both have been charged with contravening a custody order and are scheduled for a bail hearing in British Columbia. Investigators are seeking their detention so they can be returned to Alberta to face proceedings there.
The investigation involved approximately 70 Alberta RCMP investigators, civilian support staff, and police resources from Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Specialized units, including Emergency Response Team members, Federal Policing and Air Services, also assisted.
The RCMP thanked the officers and support personnel involved, along with members of the public and media who shared information and remained vigilant during the search.
To protect the children’s privacy, no further details will be released.
