According to the RCMP, human remains of unknown identity were found near a residence in northwest Saskatchewan. On May 3, Pierceland RCMP received a report about the discovery of the remains in Big Island Lake Cree Nation. Responding officers asked for assistance from the province’s RCMP major crimes unit after receiving the call at around 9:40 p.m.
With the aid of a forensic unit, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, and local search and rescue teams, the remains were collected. According to an RCMP press release, officers conducted a ground search of the surrounding area but did not discover any additional remains. The investigation will continue, with an increased police presence in the vicinity.
The police have yet to identify the remains and have scheduled an autopsy. The Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes unit has notified families of missing persons in the area of the discovery, according to the RCMP.
