A toddler who died after disappearing from a Cobourg daycare last week is being remembered as the “most beautiful and sweetest little girl.”
Vienna Rose Irwin, 2, was discovered missing from Watch Me Grow Day Care on Baltimore Rd. (County Rd. 45) around 5:20 p.m. last Thursday when her mother came to pick her up.
A frantic search that included members of the OPP ended in tragedy when Vienna’s body was found in a nearby open well.
In a GoFundMe campaign set up for her parents, Claire and Clayton Irwin, organizer Ericka Stapleton wrote that “Vienna passed away and gained her angel wings in a way parents only think about in their worst nightmares.
“She was the most beautiful and sweetest little girl and in her short time here on Earth touched so many. This tragic and sudden loss has rocked the Irwin family and everyone in our small community.”
Stapleton said the couple and their extended family have been left “in a state of mourning.”
She added: “So many of you have reached out to share your messages of love, strength and condolences — I can assure you that each and every one of your messages mean so much to the Irwin family. They are all so very overwhelmed and stricken with grief that they may not be able to answer any texts, messages or phone calls at this time.”
Vienna’s funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Port Hope with a private family interment to follow.
There will also be a public visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the at the Allison Funeral Home in Port Hope.
The GoFundMe has raised more than $115,000 as of the noon hour Monday.
OPP are investigating the circumstances that led to Vienna’s death.
