Mary Frances Gregory was last seen leaving her home in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada on February 15, 1978. She’d planned to visit Palo Alto, California for a vacation, and was in the company of a male acquaintance. It’s believed the pair crossed into the United Sates via the border with New York three days later, on February 18.
Police spoke with the man, who claimed he drove through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada during the trip west. He told them he’d dropped Mary off at a bus station in Las Vegas on February 28, but no explanation has been publicly released as to why.
Mary never arrived in California as planned and has not been heard from since.
Mary was carrying luggage with her at the time of her disappearance, which has never been recovered by investigators. The man she was travelling with has never been publicly identified.
At present, the Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is handling the investigation. Mary has been listed as a missing person in both Ontario and California, and foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
Partial dental records are available for 10 of Mary’s teeth, as is her DNA. Her DNA has been compared against the Perry County Jane Doe and Sahara Sue, but both were determined to not be the missing teenager.
