The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) urge those with information regarding two missing people, Lawrence Bertrim and Robbie Thomson, to contact investigators.
Lawrence Bertrim, who would now be 43 years old, went missing from Smiths Falls’ downtown over a year ago and has not been found. Robbie Thomson, 34, went missing in October.
Another man, Steven Tate, 34, who was last seen in Smiths Falls near Lombard and Lavinia streets around 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, was found dead adjacent to Highway 15 near Smiths Falls on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
OPP say the investigations into the disappearances the two men still missing “remain active and ongoing.” OPP are also investigating the death of Tate.
Teams of investigators from the OPP and SFPS, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), continue to followup on any potential leads that are provided. “We cannot speculate on any potential connection between these cases,” OPP said in a press release on Tuesday, Nov. 28. “Investigators from both services are very concerned about the rumours, misinformation and disinformation being spread. Rumours can cause delays in the investigation.”
