The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is sharing tragic news about a 28-year-old from Surrey who was reported missing earlier in the year. According to IHIT, Navdeep Kaur’s remains were found in Richmond this summer.
IHIT had said the young woman was last seen on Thursday, February 22, at 10:30 pm near 78 Avenue and 123 Street in Surrey. Her family reported her missing on Friday, February 23.
“After an extensive investigation by the Surrey RCMP’s Missing Persons Unit, evidence was collected that has led investigators to believe that Ms. Kaur may be a victim of foul play,” the homicide unit said.
Because evidence suggested Kaur’s disappearance may have been the result of criminality, IHIT took over the investigation and worked with Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service.
IHIT is now confirming that on July 23, Richmond RCMP received a report of possible human remains “located in the water where Williams Road meets the Fraser River.”
Investigators have since identified the remains to have belonged to Kaur.
“IHIT has continued to pursue a number of investigative avenues to determine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Kaur’s death,” IHIT added.
“This is a tragic event and investigators continue to work on this very active investigation. We are releasing an update with the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward.” Corporal Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT said.
