Remains of a missing Edmonton woman presumed dead have been found by search and rescue teams.
Forensic investigators confirmed the remains found Wednesday belonged to Billie Wynell Johnson, 30, who was reported missing Dec. 28, city police said Thursday.
Kenneth Courtorielle was charged with second-degree murder in February. A second charge of indignity to a body was pending as of Thursday.
“This was a difficult investigation from the onset based on the circumstances surrounding Billie’s disappearance,” Staff Sgt. Leathem with city homicide said in a news release.
“Homicide detectives worked tirelessly on the file and are very relieved to bring some form of comfort to Billie’s family in the recovery of their loved one’s remains.”
Edmonton police are not releasing details any details about the discovery, including the location.
