Alberta RCMP completed aerial searches on Oct. 10 along the Wabasca and Peace Rivers.
This is an annual occurrence to search for missing persons “with the hopes of discovering new information to advance ongoing investigations,” reads the media release.
Last year’s location was the North Saskatchewan and Bow Rivers, and was conducted by Alberta RCMP Missing Persons-Unidentified Remains Unit as well, along with Edmonton Police Service.
“Police are looking for deceased persons, clothing articles and possibly organic matter which may be visible from the air. Organic matter may look like a large mound of grass, debris, branches etc.,” says Cpl Mathew Howell, public information officer.
River’s are typically lower at this time of year, says Howell, allowing for a better view of water and embankments.
The aerial searches have been successful in the past. They’ve made many recoveries and identified missing persons.
Anyone with information on the location of a missing person can call 911, their local police of jurisdiction, or any police station.
“The Alberta RCMP takes all reports of persons reported missing, regardless of jurisdiction. You do not have to wait any amount of time before reporting someone that you believe may be missing to the RCMP,” reads the media release.
