Police in eastern Ontario say they remain committed to finding out what happened to two missing Smiths Falls men.
Lawrence Bertrim, who would now be 44, was last seen on Sept. 30, 2022, in downtown Smiths Falls.
Robbie Thomson, who would now be 35, was reported missing about 13 months later, on Oct. 19, 2023. Police believe he initially went missing between Oct. 12 and Oct. 18 of that year.
“While it has not been determined that the two incidents are connected, investigators cannot rule that out,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a release Tuesday.
Investigators, including the OPP’s emergency response team, canine unit, underwater search and recovery and aviation service, have conducted “multiple searches” and followed up on tips from the public.
“While there have been multiple appeals for information, investigators still believe someone has a key piece of evidence that will help determine what happened to Lawrence Bertrim and Robbie Thomson,” police said.
Anyone with information should call the OPP tip lines:
For Robbie Thomson: 1-855-677-4636
For Lawrence Bertrim: 1-844-677-9404
“We’ve conducted a few searches in the area recently,” East Region OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson said Tuesday, adding the new statement was issued in part to confirm to the community that those activities were related to the missing men.
“We follow up on any credible tips that we get,” Dickson said. “Somebody has to have that critical piece of information.”
