Woodstock police do not believe there is a threat to public safety after the body of a missing 30-year-old woman was found in a vehicle on a residential street.
Police identified the deceased as Karen Cunningham late Friday. The 30-year-old Woodstock woman had been first reported missing the day before.
“We don’t believe there is any risk (to the public). We are still in the early stages of the investigation,” Insp. Heidi Beck said Saturday morning.
Early Friday, Woodstock police cordoned off Mill Street and Sixth Avenue, an intersection in the southwest corner of the city, after a body was found inside a parked Mazda 3. The intersection was closed for several hours and the public was asked to avoid the area.
The coroner’s office has been called in to assist with the death investigation. Cunningham’s body has been sent to London for an autopsy.
The investigation into Cunningham’s death is ongoing, Beck said Saturday.
