Police are investigating human remains found northeast of Edmonton in January.
In January 2025, partial human remains were located in a wooded area near Aurum Road and 17 Street. Deep snow cover and winter conditions prevented a full search of the surrounding area at the time, and plans were made to expand the search in spring.
On Jan. 20, 2025, the Medical Examiner completed an examination of the remains, and the cause and manner of death has yet to be determined.
In April 2025, a match from the National DNA Data Bank identified the remains as those of Teanna Lacoursiere, 25, who was reported missing in April 2024.
Teanna was described as 5’1” tall and 120 lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair, although she was known to change her hair colour. She had a tattoo across her chest, as shown in the photos below. She was also known to go by the name “Mistey.”
Throughout April and May, EPS Missing Persons Unit coordinated multiple searches in the area where the remains were found, and on May 26, 2025, a full grid search of the surrounding region was completed with the assistance of Search and Rescue Alberta to locate further evidence.
“The search area was large and forested, which made this particularly complex,” says Staff Sergeant Kevin Harrison, with the EPS Historical Crimes Section. “Investigators planned to complete a full grid search prior to issuing a public notification in hopes of gathering important evidence that would advance the investigation. With that grid search complete, we are now appealing to the public for any information that might help shed some light on how Teanna’s remains ended up in this location, as we believe the circumstances to be suspicious.”
Anyone with information about Teanna Lacoursiere, her associates and activities leading up to her death is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
