🚨 Amber Alert Ends: Missing 1-Year-Old Girl Found Safe in Brampton; Suspect Still at Large
A one-year-old girl who was the subject of an Ontario Amber Alert Tuesday afternoon has been found safe, according to Peel Regional Police.
The Amber Alert was issued around 5 p.m. by the Ontario Provincial Police on behalf of Peel police. The child had last been seen in Brampton earlier in the day.
Police say the incident began around 2 p.m. in the parking lot of a Brampton strip mall near Queen Street East and Airport Road. That’s where the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, allegedly shot and killed a woman before fleeing the scene in a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec licence plate FRV4520. The missing infant was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time.
During a police news conference held around 6:40 p.m., Const. Mandeep Khatra confirmed the child had been located and was safe. “I can now confirm that the child has been located by police, safe and sound,” Khatra said. “Police are with the child.”
He added that officers believe the child was dropped off with family members shortly before being found.
📍 Suspect at Large
The suspect, Anthony Deschepper, remains on the run. He is described as standing five-foot-nine, weighing 181 pounds, with brown hair.
Const. Khatra declined to confirm the relationship between the suspect, the victim, and the child, but noted that investigators believe the shooting may be intimate partner-related. “Given the totality of the situation, we believe this to be an intimate partner-related incident,” he said. “However, it’s still early — we’re looking at all avenues to determine what exactly transpired.”
🚔 Investigation Expands to Niagara Region
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police in the Niagara Region posted an alert on social media stating that Deschepper may be in the Fort Erie area. Officers urged residents near Prospect Point and Ridgeway Road to shelter in place while the investigation continues.
Authorities continue to search for Deschepper and warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who spots him is urged to call 911 immediately and not approach the suspect.
