Somewhere in the one-kilometre between Melanie Ethier’s New Liskeard home and her friend’s house lay the secrets of what happened to her.
For nearly 25 years, her bizarre disappearance has left Ontario Provincial Police scratching their heads.
But at least one person knows the pretty teen’s fate.
“There is somebody out there who knows something,” Insp. Rob Matthews said.
That belief led the OPP to release a compelling video series on unsolved cases, including the strange disappearance of Ethier.
There has been no sign of her since about 2 a.m. on Sept. 29, 1996, when the 15-year-old left pals at her friend’s house after watching movies.
It should have been a 12-minute-walk. Instead, it became a mystery that has gripped the Northern Ontario town for years.
