🚨 OPP Debunks Myth: No 24-Hour Wait Required to Report a Missing Child in Ontario

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is pushing back against a persistent myth that parents must wait 24 hours before reporting a missing child to authorities.

“If you believe your child is missing or has run away, report it to police immediately,” the OPP emphasized in a recent social media post. There is no waiting period in Canada for missing child cases, and quick reporting significantly improves the chances of a safe return.

Officers stress that seconds matter in these situations, and early action gives investigators a critical head start. The service also encourages families to keep up-to-date photos of children, noting they are one of the most effective tools in any missing person investigation.

“When we get calls about missing family members, one of the first things we ask for is an up-to-date picture to assist officers in their search,” police stated.

Anyone concerned about a child’s whereabouts is urged to contact local authorities or call 911 as soon as possible.

📞 How to Help

Report immediately to your local police or call 911 if you believe a child is missing.
