OPP Searching Iroquois Falls Landfill for Remains of Rebecca Fudge-Schnarr, Missing Since 2022
Ontario Provincial Police are conducting an evidence search at the Nellie Lake Landfill in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, in connection with the disappearance of Rebecca “Becky” Fudge-Schnarr, who was 17 years old when she went missing on November 24, 2022.
Becky was last seen at 10:00 a.m. that day at her family’s residence on Moffatt Road in Iroquois Falls. She was described as having long blonde hair and glasses, and was wearing a hoodie, jean jacket, jeans, grey boots, and carrying a white floral-patterned bag.
The OPP has been conducting the search at the landfill since July 10, 2025. The investigation is being led by the South Porcupine OPP under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) for the northeast region. Specialized resources are involved, including the Emergency Response Team and Urban Search and Rescue CBRNE Response Team. Safety measures have been established to protect all personnel working on site.
Detective Inspector Tom McVey of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch confirmed the search is ongoing, but did not share what led investigators to focus on that location, nor did he provide an end date. “We are committed to taking the time required to provide a thorough and professional search,” McVey said.
Police are working in a lower-lying section of the landfill. The Town of Iroquois Falls has cooperated fully with the investigation. Director of Public Works Stephen Poliquin said the area was formerly an active working section of the dump, and that a ramp leading to it has since been blocked off. Police have installed their own separate ramp and access point. The town has also built a series of sand berms around the search area, along with signage and cones, to separate the public from police operations while keeping the rest of the landfill open.
Both police and the Town of Iroquois Falls are asking the public to avoid the active search area while the landfill remains open.
On November 29, 2024 β the two-year anniversary of Becky’s disappearance β the OPP installed two billboards on Highway 11 near Kelso Road announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. That reward remains in place.
