🚨 Attempted Child Abduction – Kirkland Lake, Ontario
A 38-year-old woman has been charged following an attempted abduction of a baby on Thursday in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
A video showing the woman’s arrest was shared on social media but has since been taken down. In the video, a baby can be heard in the background. The caption that accompanied the video stated that the woman attempted to take someone’s infant, but the mother was able to quickly lock the vehicle doors, preventing the abduction.
The incident occurred around 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, according to a news release issued Friday by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
“Officers responded to a report of an attempted child abduction in the parking lot of a store on Government Road in Kirkland Lake,” police said.
“It was reported that an individual had approached a mother and child and attempted to gain access to the vehicle occupied by the child. The mother was able to secure the vehicle door, preventing entry, and the suspect fled the scene.”
Police arrived on scene shortly after the call and located the suspect. In the video of her arrest, she can be seen struggling with four officers while shouting for help before the video ends abruptly.
The woman, a resident of Bonfield Township, has been charged with the abduction of a person under 14 years of age and resisting arrest.
She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Friday. The investigation remains ongoing.

🚨 Tentative d’enlèvement d’un enfant – Kirkland Lake, Ontario
Une femme de 38 ans a été accusée après une tentative d’enlèvement d’un bébé survenue jeudi à Kirkland Lake, en Ontario.
Une vidéo de son arrestation a été diffusée sur les réseaux sociaux, mais a depuis été supprimée. On peut entendre un bébé en arrière-plan. La légende de la vidéo indiquait que la suspecte avait tenté de prendre un nourrisson, mais que la mère avait pu verrouiller les portes du véhicule à temps, empêchant l’enlèvement.
L’incident s’est produit vers 12h35, selon un communiqué publié vendredi par la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO).
« Les agents ont répondu à un signalement concernant une tentative d’enlèvement d’enfant dans le stationnement d’un magasin situé sur la route Government à Kirkland Lake », a déclaré la police.
« Il a été signalé qu’une personne s’était approchée d’une mère et de son enfant et avait tenté d’accéder au véhicule où se trouvait l’enfant. La mère a pu verrouiller la porte du véhicule, empêchant ainsi l’intrusion, et la suspecte a pris la fuite. »
Les policiers sont arrivés peu de temps après et ont localisé la suspecte. Dans la vidéo de son arrestation, on la voit se débattre avec quatre agents tout en criant à l’aide, avant que la vidéo ne soit interrompue.
La femme, originaire du canton de Bonfield, a été accusée d’enlèvement d’une personne de moins de 14 ans et de résistance à l’arrestation.
Elle doit comparaître devant la Cour de justice de l’Ontario à Kirkland Lake vendredi. L’enquête est toujours en cours.
