Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are expected to provide an update on the investigation surrounding a woman violently abducted from a home in Wasaga Beach almost one year ago.
OPP says 37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri — who also goes by the surname Tamiri — was kidnapped from her home on Jan. 12, 2022, by three men wearing police gear but not actual police uniforms.
They fled with Hajtamiri in what is believed to be a white 2016-2022 model Lexus RX sport utility vehicle. OPP investigators have linked the abduction with an assault on Hajtamiri in Richmond Hill on Dec. 20, 2021.
On that date, police officers say Hajtamiri was attacked by two men and hit with a frying pan in an underground parking garage on King William Crescent, in the area of Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue. Investigators say a passerby intervened, and the suspects fled in a vehicle. The passerby was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect vehicle, which hasn’t been recovered, was deemed stolen from Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue East in Toronto.
Police have since arrested and charged two men concerning the assault on Hajtamiri, who hasn’t been seen or heard from since the January abduction. Investigators will provide the update around 10 a.m. on Thursday, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of Hajtamiri being forcibly taken from the Wasaga Beach residence.
York Regional Police officers will accompany OPP.
Hajtamiri is described as 5-foot-3, with a slim build and shoulder-length black hair. Anyone with any information is asked to call the dedicated tip line at 1-833-728-3415, a local police service.
