On April 21, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in central Alberta arrested a 34-year-old man from Olds and found a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing from Edmonton last month. The Edmonton Police Service requested assistance from the RCMP, leading to the police attending a home in the town.
Upon arrival, an unknown man answered the door and confirmed that the girl was in the residence. However, he refused to allow police to enter to ensure she was safe. Due to concerns about the girl’s safety, the officers detained the man and entered the residence. They soon discovered the missing girl hiding under a stairway.
The man, identified as Dean Humphrey, was charged with multiple offenses, including luring a child, child abduction, sexual interference, sexual assault, unsafe storage of firearms, and possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place. Humphrey was released on conditions and is required to appear in Didsbury provincial court on May 15.
