The Ottawa Police Service continues to appeal for the public’s assistance in the cold case disappearance of Janette Lucille Brunet, a 27-year-old woman who went missing on January 31, 1988, in Ottawa, Ontario.
Janette, a single mother, left her daughter with a babysitter on the night of January 30, 1988, and went to Ozzie’s Eatery pub. At approximately 1:20 a.m. on January 31, the bar owner observed her talking to a man on the sidewalk outside. She was last seen hitchhiking north on Holland Avenue toward Tunney’s Pasture, accompanied by the same man.
The next day, a heart-shaped pendant belonging to Janette was discovered in the parking lot behind the bar, its clasp broken. Investigators found no evidence to suggest she had planned to disappear: she had recently signed a new lease for her apartment, left $600 in her bank account, and $788 in cash was later discovered in her linen closet. Her family and friends strongly believe she would never have abandoned her daughter.
