One phone call, video, lead or some closure. That’s what Leslie Shingoose’s family is looking for as they endeavour not to lose hope for her return despite fearing the worst.
Having come to Calgary to visit family for the holidays, Shingoose — who also sometimes goes by Lacey — was last seen more than a month ago on Jan. 2.
Shingoose’s younger sister, Felicia Severight, told Postmedia on Saturday that the situation has become very concerning.
“I believe she’s not with us anymore. Something happened to her. I think she’s gone, but my mom … my mom has hope,” said Severight.
They continue to retrace her steps in downtown Calgary, relying on a wheelchair to get around, Severight gets help from her family in searching.
Calgary police officers had tracked Shingoose’s movements to a convenience store in the Beltline, where she was last seen.
However, Severight was told by police her sister used her cellphone on Jan. 3 and none of her bank accounts have been touched.
“That’s a huge red flag, because she’s very good with her money and she knows how to make it last,” said Severight, noting that Shingoose would need it to travel as she intended.
Shingoose had told multiple family members that she intended to travel to British Columbia to visit family there, and her Jan. 3 phone call was to a B.C. number.
But Severight and others didn’t recognize the number she called and her family in B.C. hasn’t heard anything.
