The search for a man missing nearly three weeks has ended, with the discovery of Irshaad Ikbal’s remains in False Creek yesterday evening.
Irshaad was found deceased in the water near the Plaza of Nations just before 6 p.m. Thursday. A passerby called 9-1-1 and Vancouver Police officers brought him to shore.
The BC Coroners Service is now investigating. The cause of Irshaad’s death has not been determined.
The Vancouver Police Department extends its sympathies to the family, friends, and community members who helped search for Irshaad after he went missing on April 29. The VPD’s investigation into Irshaad’s disappearance remains open.

The Vancouver Police Department is appealing to the public for help in locating 36-year-old Irshaad Ikbal, who went missing from the downtown core on Saturday morning. According to reports, Mr. Ikbal was last seen around 2 a.m. near the Plaza of Nations on Pacific Boulevard. He became separated from his friends and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Mr. Ikbal is South Asian, 5’8″ tall, and weighs around 155 pounds. He has a medium build, short black hair, hazel eyes, and a black beard. He was last seen wearing a white button-down shirt with a pink and blue pattern, light blue and ripped denim jeans, and white high-top Converse shoes.
His disappearance is reportedly out of character, and his family and friends are concerned for his safety. Vancouver Police have released an image of Mr. Ikbal taken from a security camera near Smithe and Beatty Street, hoping someone will recognize him.
Anyone with information about Mr. Ikbal’s whereabouts or anyone who was with him early Saturday morning is urged to contact the Vancouver Police Department immediately.
