A 30-year-old Kitchener man has now been missing for almost two weeks.
Eduard Kachan was last seen at his home on Vintage Crescent, in the Pioneer Park neighbourhood, at around 2:20 p.m. on Jan. 21. His family said he left behind both his car and phone.
Kachan is described as 6’0, with an average build, green eyes, short dark blond hair and wears glasses. On Jan. 21, he had on a dark blue puffy jacket, a green jacket underneath, dark blue snowpants and a light green toque.
Kachan’s mother described to CTV News the “desperate” efforts taken to find her missing son.
She said, in addition to the police investigation, the family has organized a search of the neighbourhood, made appeals for information on social media and put up posters in shelters, community kitchens, motels and the tent city.
“I deeply believe that he is OK, but we still do not have any confirmation,” she explained in an email. “My thoughts are constantly swirling in my head. I need to know that he is OK and not frozen somewhere, and not in danger.”
Kachan’s mother understands that his disappearance may be deliberate.
“Maybe he does not want to contact his family, maybe he needs some time to make any decisions – all these things will be up to him to decide,” she wrote. “Any news that he is OK will be great and the police can help him to navigate [his] other options.”
Right now, all she wants is answers.
“The main thing for me it to know that he is OK.”
Anyone who has seen Kachan, or knows where he is, is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police at 519-570-9777.
