According to the police, the body of a boater who had gone missing on Bass Lake in Oro-Medonte towards the end of last week has been found.
The OPP confirmed on Wednesday that police divers discovered the remains of the 47-year-old Orillia resident who had gone fishing on Friday morning but did not return.
After a local resident reported discovering an abandoned boat, police commenced an extensive search that afternoon. They later confirmed that the boat belonged to the missing individual and requested residents living along the shoreline to search their properties.
The search for the missing man involved the assistance of the OPP Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Aviation Team, and K9 unit.
The cause of the man’s drowning is unknown, but the police stated that the weather may have played a role, adding that boat safety is crucial during this time of year.
The man’s identity has not been disclosed.
