A 49-year-old Fergus man is facing a string of charges after he told police his car was stolen with his kid inside.
Waterloo regional police say officers soon discovered that wasn’t true.
The man called police around 8:00 p.m. Sunday and told them he had parked his Jaguar outside a bank near King Street and Wellington Street in Kitchener. According to police, the man said he came out of the bank to find the car gone, along with the child he’d left inside.
Police put out information on social media and were in the process of sending out an Amber Alert when the man realized he had driven a different car — a Jeep — to the bank. By 8:39 p.m., officers had found the car with the child safe inside.
The man was arrested and has been charged with impaired driving, driving over 80, driving while prohibited, child abandonment and failure to provide the necessities of life.
