t approximately 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, a female was walking alone in the area of Stoneybrook Crescent and Hastings Gate when she was approached by a male driving a white van.  He stopped beside the female and advised her that her mother said she should go with him.  He then departed the area, and the female was not harmed.  A witness observed this interaction and police were contacted.

The vehicle and its driver have been identified. The driver has been spoken to, and there are no concerns for public safety.  The matter was determined to be a case of mistaken identity on behalf of the driver.  The London Police Service wishes to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

That little girl who was approached by a man in a van yesterday? London police now say they’ve talked to the driver; mistaken identity.

London Police are currently looking to speak with a male who approached a young girl in the area of Stoneybrook Crescent and Hastings Gate earlier this morning.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, a female was walking alone when she was approached by a white, older model Astro Van or Safari Van (possibly 80’s or 90’s style).  Witnesses described the van as having black bumpers and tinted rear windows.

The van stopped beside the female, and a man advised the girl that her mother said she should go with him.

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male in his early 60’s with white or grey hair.

The student was not harmed in any way, nor was she approached any further by the suspect.

The London Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and guardians to discuss safety measures with their children.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in on-line anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
