Hamilton police have told CHCH that the landfill search for missing woman Shalini Singh will be extended for at least two weeks beyond the initial April 18 deadline.
Police are combing through Glanbrook Landfill on Haldibrook Road in Glanbrook for any sign of the missing 40-year-old who was last seen in early December.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that Singh was killed in her apartment by her boyfriend and removed from the building via its garbage disposal system.
CCTV footage was used to establish the couple’s movements in the days prior to Singh going missing. According to Hamilton police, she was not seen leaving her building after December 4, and was reported missing six days later.
Forensics teams, officers and police cadets have been looking for Singh in a large area in the landfill identified by a GPS tracker on a garbage truck. The search began at the end of February.
Hamilton police said: “The initial search was to be concluded on April 18, but it will now be extended two more weeks — at which time they will reevaluate again.”
