Kitchener Residents Organizing Community Search Along Grand River for Missing 25-Year-Old Eli Wood
The disappearance of 25-year-old Kitchener resident Eli Wood remains under active investigation, with Waterloo Regional Police treating the case as suspicious after an arson fire destroyed their apartment on October 19, 2025.
Emergency crews responded to the blaze on Major Street around 6 a.m. and found Wood’s service dog deceased inside, but no trace of Wood. In November, police confirmed the fire was deliberately set and stated they suspect foul play in the disappearance.
With no new leads from official searches, a group of local residents has taken action. On Sunday, December 7, 2025, dozens of volunteers will gather for a community-led ground search along the Grand River.
The search will begin at 326 Riverbend Drive, northeast of Wood’s apartment. Organizers are asking participants to dress for cold, snowy conditions. The effort is supported by Response Tactics International (Orangeville) and has seen strong turnout after spreading rapidly on social media.
Waterloo Regional Police continue their investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 519-570-9777 ext. 8191 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
