The final suspect in the 2020 death of Megan Gallagher is now in custody charged with first-degree murder.
Saskatoon police arrested Summer Sky-Henry, 24, on Wednesday. She appeared in provincial court on Thursday. She is the ninth and final suspect in Gallagher’s death.
It was an emotional morning in court for the Gallagher family, who came to more than 70 appearances last year as the various accused were arrested.
They embraced supporters, and major crimes officers, in the hallway before Sky-Henry’s appearance. They quietly filled the courtroom and watched as prosecutor Kim Humphries read the charges.
Sky-Henry has several unrelated outstanding warrants, including for unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, robbery, and other gun and drug charges.
Sky-Henry was remanded until her next appearance on Jan. 12 and ordered to have no contact with any of the eight co-accused.
The arrest and appearance brings the search for suspects to a close and transitions the case fully to the courts.
Gallagher, 30, was reported missing two years ago. Police believed from the early days of the investigation that she had been killed.
In September 2022, Saskatoon police searched along the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis, Sask., and found human remains.
Police say DNA testing confirmed the remains belonged to Gallagher and that her death was a homicide. Nine people have been charged in connection with Gallagher’s death, including four with first-degree murder.
Others face charges for aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and offering an indignity to human remains.
