Elgin OPP have identified the skeletal remains found on a property northwest of St. Thomas last week as a man who was reported missing to police in 2016.
Police have identified the remains as belonging to Kevin Savoie, 52, of St. Thomas after a post-mortem was conducted last week.
Elgin OPP descended on a wooded area off Turner Road last Tuesday after the body was discovered by a passerby.
In a public statement issued in September 2016, St. Thomas police said Savoie was last seen at his home Sept. 9.
Police at the time investigated a tip that Savoie was staying with a friend in Aylmer, but later appealed to the public for help locating him after the search didn’t turn up the then-51-year-old.
Police say foul play is not suspected in the case but are asking anyone who knew or had contact with Savoie before his disappearance to call OPP Det. Const. Brian Watson at (519) 631-2920.
