Karen Jane “Karebear” Thompson was a 43-year-old mother of four who disappeared under suspicious circumstances in Toronto, Ontario. She was last seen on July 31, 2016, at her daughter’s birthday party at Prince of Whales Park. Despite multiple investigations and searches, she has not been seen since, and foul play is suspected.
Karen lived in Etobicoke at the time of her disappearance, but she often moved between Dufferin County, Alliston, Scarborough, Oakville, and Hamilton. Her family describes her as a loving, strong-willed woman with a big heart and a protective nature. She was known affectionately as “Karebear.”
Her daughter described Karen as a mother who was always there for her children and proud of their accomplishments. She once ran the Mississauga Marathon with her daughter to show support, despite not being a runner herself. Her family continues to grieve and fight for answers.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to treat Karen’s case as a suspected homicide. The investigation revealed that her disappearance was likely the result of foul play. Despite this, the case remains unsolved after nearly a decade. Karen’s family has never given up hope, and the OPP continues to follow new leads as they emerge.
Detective Inspector Chris Josiah with the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch has appealed to the public, stating:
“We believe there are individuals who have information about Karen’s disappearance. We urge them to come forward and speak to investigators.”
To date, every tip received has been investigated, but police are still searching for that key piece of information that could bring closure to Karen’s loved ones.
💰 Reward Offered
The Government of Ontario is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Karen’s disappearance. This reward remains active and will be apportioned by the Solicitor General and the OPP Commissioner.
