🚨 Missing Woman – Last Seen October 13, 1970, in Prince George, British Columbia

Helen Claire Frost was just 17 years old when she left her apartment in Prince George, BC, for a walk and never returned. Over fifty years later, her disappearance remains one of the region’s most haunting unsolved cases.

📌 Description

  • Name: Helen Claire Frost
  • Date of Birth: October 17, 1952
  • Age at Disappearance: 17
  • Height: 5’6″
  • Weight: 100–125 lbs
  • Hair: Short blonde/brown
  • Eyes: Blue (left eye opens less wide than the right)
  • Clothing: Navy blue nylon coat with fur-trimmed hood, blue slacks
  • Distinguishing Features: Fair complexion, previous pregnancy

📖 Case Overview

Helen was born in Reigate, England, and moved to Canada with her family in 1956, eventually settling in Nanaimo, BC. In 1969, she moved to Prince George, sharing an apartment on Queensway Street with her sister Sandy and a friend. In May 1970, Helen gave birth to a daughter in Kamloops and placed the child for adoption—an event that deeply impacted her emotionally.

On the evening of October 13, 1970, Helen asked her sister if she wanted to go for a walk. Sandy declined, and Helen left alone around 8:20 p.m., wearing a coat and slacks. She left behind her money, ID, and personal belongings. When she hadn’t returned by October 15, she was reported missing to the RCMP.

At the time, Helen worked at The Bay in Prince George. An extensive search was launched, including a reported hitchhiking sighting at a gas station, though this could not be confirmed. The case remains open under RCMP file number 1970-70118.

🧩 A Sister’s Search for Truth

Helen’s sister Sandy Barnet has spent decades trying to find answers. In 2017, a significant development occurred when Helen’s daughter, Michele Johnston—adopted as an infant—reached out. Their reunion brought comfort, but the mystery of Helen’s disappearance continues to weigh heavily on the family.

Although her case predates the official timeline of the Highway of Tears, Helen is not formally included on that list. Groups like the Tears to Hope Society continue advocating for awareness of missing women in northern British Columbia.
