A search for a missing Belleville woman last seen in the Killaloe area has come to a tragic end.

Ontario Provincial Police posted to social media Jan. 13 that 48-year-old Catherine Lewis was located deceased.

Lewis, who was known to frequent the Killaloe, Pembroke and the Belleville areas, had been last seen Dec. 28 in the Killaloe area.

Family members have shared on social media that Lewis was found in her vehicle down a deep embankment about 20 minutes from where she was last seen.

Police later confirmed that on Jan. 12 at about 1:30 p.m., members of the Killaloe OPP responded to a 911 call on Letterkenny Road, near Opeongo Road, in the Township of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan.

Information obtained indicated that a vehicle matching a description of Lewis’ vehicle had been discovered down an embankment, with a deceased person located inside. Police, Renfrew County Ambulance and members of the Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Fire Department attended the scene.

A portion of Letterkenny Road, between Opeongo Road, and Rockingham Road, was closed for approximately 21 hours to facilitate the investigation.

A post mortem examination has been ordered by the Office of the Chief Coroner. The incident has been deemed as non -suspicious at this time. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
