🚨 Attempted Child Abduction at Beeton Lemonade Stand – Suspect Charged by Nottawasaga OPP
The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in connection with an attempted child abduction that occurred in New Tecumseth on Thursday, August 1, 2025.
A group of children was operating a lemonade stand around 3:00 p.m. on 9th Line in Beeton when they were approached by a man who allegedly made inappropriate comments and invitations toward the group. The incident was quickly reported to police.
Following an investigation, officers identified and arrested Larry Chen, 61, of New Tecumseth. He has been charged with the following:
- Three counts of Abduction of a person under 14 – take or entice
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing on August 6, 2025, in Brampton.

This disturbing incident occurred in a public residential area and involved multiple children. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and are reminding parents and caregivers to regularly speak with their children about personal safety and how to respond to uncomfortable or suspicious situations.

🚨 Tentative d’enlèvement d’enfants à un kiosque de limonade à Beeton – Accusé arrêté
Le détachement de Nottawasaga de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) a porté des accusations à la suite d’une tentative d’enlèvement d’enfants survenue à New Tecumseth, le jeudi 1er août 2025.
Un groupe d’enfants tenait un kiosque de limonade vers 15 h sur la 9e Ligne à Beeton lorsqu’un homme s’est approché d’eux et aurait fait des propos et des invitations inappropriés. L’incident a été rapidement signalé à la police.
Les policiers ont identifié et arrêté Larry Chen, 61 ans, de New Tecumseth. Il fait face aux accusations suivantes :
- Trois chefs d’accusation d’enlèvement d’une personne de moins de 14 ans – attirer ou prendre
L’accusé demeure en détention en attente de son audience de libération sous caution prévue le 6 août 2025, à Brampton.

Cette tentative d’enlèvement s’est produite dans une zone résidentielle publique et a visé plusieurs enfants. La police exhorte la population à demeurer vigilante et rappelle aux parents et aux personnes responsables de discuter régulièrement avec leurs enfants de la sécurité personnelle et des réactions à adopter dans des situations inconfortables ou suspectes.
