Thursday should have been a fun holiday for Emily Bailey and loved ones, marking the Hamilton wife’s 24th birthday.
Instead, family, friends and members of the community gather at Gage Park to light candles and share cupcakes in honor of the mother-of-two who has been missing for nearly a year.
“I think the hardest part about this whole situation is not knowing,” Emily’s brother Ben said.
He wakes up every morning and lives with a sadness that he can’t name because he doesn’t know where his sister is or what happened to her.
“I don’t know if she left or lived her life somewhere or if something terrible happened to her,” he said.

Even the facts surrounding her disappearance are murky, with conflicting information. It seems the story is constantly changing since she was reported missing to Hamilton Police on January 10, 2022. In March, Homicide took over the investigation into her disappearance over the “possibility of foul play.”
But the unanswered questions keep piling up. Was Emily New Years Eve at a party? Did she get into a vehicle? Exactly where and when was she last seen?
