36 years later, police still searching for Lois Hanna

It has been 36 years since the family of Lois Hanna last saw her face.

The 25-year-old Kincardine woman left a homecoming dance in Lucknow on July 3, 1988 and was never seen again.

She was reported missing the following day after she failed to show up to work at MacG’s, a local women’s clothing store. Since then, police and Hanna’s family have been searching for answers in her disappearance, trying to find the person who took her.

On what is the 36th anniversary of the day Hanna was reported missing, South Bruce OPP are renewing calls for answers, urging anyone who knows anything to come forward.

“Thirty-six years after Lois disappeared her family is still looking for her. Someone knows what happened to Lois,” said Detective Inspector Shawn Glassford of the OPP criminal investigation branch. “Police continue to investigate and are asking that anyone with information please come forward. Let’s help Lois’ family find the truth.”

A $50,000 reward for information leading to Hanna’s location is being offered by the Government of Ontario, Glassford said.

What police have been able to piece together over the years is that Hanna did in fact make it home from the dance in Lucknow. Her car was parked in the driveway and the dress she had worn that night was hanging in the closet. Her purse and keys were in their usual spot. The television was on and a half cup of tea was sitting on the table.

Police believed Hanna was abducted after being followed home from the dance. Her disappearance has been labeled a homicide.

Countless searches over the years have turned up nothing and despite recovering a DNA sample belonging to a male inside Hanna’s home, police have thus far been unable to make an arrest. To-date, police have only said they have “persons of interest” in the case.

Police urge anyone with information about the disappearance of Hanna to call investigators at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
