A 14-year-old, who’s ribbon skirt exhibit has been hanging in the Huron County Museum in Goderich, received more recognition on Sunday.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson presented Jaylynne Wolfe with a Remarkable Citizen of the Year Award.

Thompson says usually the award is presented to all of the winners at a New Years Levy, but for the last two years that hasn’t been possible.

Thompson says she was there to recognize an amazing young lady who has gathered 267 ribbon skirts to represent what matters to her and what matters is that people never forget about missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

Jaylynne says she’s very grateful to all of the people who helped sew the ribbon skirts.

“I’ve done a lot for the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and the ribbon skirt project also. I was very surprised actually. I’m kind of proud of myself for doing all of this and just thankful for everybody who helped me with it.”

Sunday was the last day for the Ribbon Skirt exhibit at the Museum.

Jaylynne says the skirts will now be collected and then gifted to the young people at her reserve of Kettle and Stoney Point.
