Tears flowed Saturday night as a heartbroken community held a candlelight vigil in Mississauga for a girl who was murdered — allegedly by her father — on her 11th birthday.
Riya Rajkuma was found dead in her dad’s Brampton home Thursday, which also happened to be Valentine’s Day.
“She was amazing and she would always make us laugh,” one young girl, who was among the dozens gathered in Meadowvale Village Green park, told CP24 as she remembered her friend.
Many who attended brought roses and heart-shaped balloons to the vigil — held around the corner from the elementary school where Riya was a Grade 5 student.
“She was really fun. She loved dancing,” another girl said, describing her friend. “She was the most positive person I’ve ever met.”
