🚨 Human Remains Found During Search for Missing Philadelphia Woman Kada Scott
The search for Kada Scott, a 23-year-old woman from Philadelphia who vanished earlier this month, has taken a tragic turn. On Saturday, October 18, 2025, police discovered human remains during an ongoing search effort near the Awbury Arboretum in East Germantown.
Authorities returned to the area behind an abandoned school after receiving a “very specific” anonymous tip overnight. According to First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford, the remains — believed to belong to a woman — were found in a shallow grave in a wooded section of the property. The discovery was made around 10 a.m. and by late afternoon, the remains had been transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office for confirmation of identity.
Police have been in contact with Scott’s family throughout the investigation. “We have been in communication with her family as to this process and in the fact that we have recovered a human being,” Stanford said during a press briefing.
📌 Background on the Case
Kada Scott was last seen on October 4, clocking in for her overnight shift at an assisted living facility in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood. She left her workplace not long after arriving and was not seen again. Her car was found in the parking lot, but her phone, keys, iPad, and other belongings were missing.
When she failed to return home the next morning, her parents contacted the facility and received conflicting information about her whereabouts. Police joined the family at the scene to begin their search.
⚖️ Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
On October 9, police arrested 21-year-old Keon King in connection with Scott’s disappearance. He faces kidnapping and related charges, and prosecutors say the case bears similarities to another abduction earlier this year. That earlier case, in which a woman survived an attack and alleged strangulation, had been dropped when the victim failed to appear in court — but prosecutors now plan to refile the charges.
Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said King is believed to be the last person in contact with Scott before she went missing. Investigators are still determining the nature of their relationship but believe they had crossed paths in the days before her disappearance. Before she vanished, Scott had told others she was being harassed, though it is unclear whether King was involved.
King is being held on $2.5 million bail. Authorities believe he owned a 1999 gold Toyota Camry tied to Scott’s disappearance. The vehicle, found in East Falls on October 15, matched the description police had circulated earlier in the day.
🚔 Key Evidence
Investigators searched an abandoned middle school near the arboretum and discovered Scott’s debit card and phone case at the site. The same area later became the location where the remains were found. Surveillance footage linked the suspect’s vehicle to several areas in Philadelphia during the timeframe of her disappearance.
🗣️ Reactions from Officials
District Attorney Larry Krasner acknowledged that his office mishandled the earlier case involving King and promised a more thorough review moving forward. The courts strongly rejected Krasner’s comments blaming bail procedures, calling them “appallingly disrespectful.”
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker offered condolences to Scott’s family, writing on Facebook: “There are no words that I can employ to remove the unimaginable pain and turmoil that the family of Kada Scott is experiencing with the tragic loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and loved one. The City of Philadelphia is here to support them in any way that we can.”
