🚨 Family Confirms Sacramento County Woman and Infant Daughter Found Deceased in Canal Near Oakdale
The tragic search for Whisper Owen and her 8-month-old daughter Sandra McCarty has come to a heartbreaking conclusion. Both were found deceased inside their vehicle, which had become submerged in a canal near Oakdale, California.
Owen and McCarty were first reported missing on July 15, 2025. The pair had last been seen in Fresno. Later that same evening, Owen’s vehicle was captured on traffic cameras in the Atwater area. Authorities quickly issued an Endangered Missing Advisory for the case.
On Sunday, volunteer divers from Adventures With Purpose and diver Juan Heredia assisted with the search. Owen’s phone had last pinged near a canal in rural west Oakdale. Following this lead, searchers located her vehicle pinned under a bridge. Inside were the bodies of Whisper and her daughter.
Whisper’s brother, Richard Owen, spoke to CBS News Sacramento: “It means we can find some way to move forward and accept this loss. She has other children that have to find a way to move on without their mother or their baby sister.”
