New information has emerged about how Julia-Mary Lane, a Brisbane woman who went missing while hiking in Canada, may have died.
The 25-year-old’s housemate Janet Hamilton reported her missing on Sunday when she failed to return home from a hiking trip at Bear Lake near Cranbrook in southeast British Columbia.
Hamilton said she had not heard from Lane since the previous day.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police then located Lane’s car parked near Bear Lake.
Lane’s body was discovered on Tuesday.
Her death is not considered suspicious, according to reports.
“The death appears to have been accidental,” RCMP corporal James Grandy said.
He cited the steep terrain in the area Lane’s body was found.
“She likely lost her footing near the steep cliff,” Grandy said.
