Sister of missing Surrey teen issues emotional plea to find little brother

The older sister of a missing 18-year-old from Surrey is speaking out following her brother’s disappearance last month.

Brenda Maku posted an emotional plea on Facebook this week, trying to offer some insight into what it has been like since Joseph disappeared at the end of October.

The heartbreaking post begins by saying that “words cannot describe how different the house has felt since Joseph went missing.”

“I’m so used to waking up and hearing his loud footsteps boom through the house. I’m so used to the smell of his eggs burning on the stove. Now, the house is so quiet and I hate it. I can’t wait for the day he comes home,” Maku shared.

She describes Joseph as outgoing, extroverted, and someone who loves people and socializing.

“Being his big sister, the past (almost) three weeks have been difficult, not only for myself, but for the entire family. … I am exhausted, and I continue to hope and pray that he comes home soon,” Maku added.

Joseph was last seen near a bus stop along 96th Avenue, north of 128th Street, on Tuesday, Oct 22.

Last week, the Surrey RCMP shared that its investigators believe Joseph rode a number of transit buses that day between 3:50 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Police mapped his journey, noting that he stayed mainly between 120 Street and King George Boulevard.

Joseph is described as a 6’5″, 200-pound Black man, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black hoodie with ‘GAP’ written in white text on the front, black North Delta Huskies basketball shorts, and black and white basketball shoes at the time of his disappearance.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Joseph is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-157805.
