Forensic teams have identified the human remains discovered near Big Island Lake Cree Territory in Saskatchewan on May 3. The individual has been identified as 20-year-old Dominic Kahpoonapit, a resident of Big Sky Lake Cree Nation. Kahpoonapit was reported missing on December 13, 2022.
Following the completion of the autopsy on Tuesday, Saskatchewan RCMP have informed Kahpoonapit’s family about the identification. Victim services have also been offered to provide support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
The circumstances surrounding Kahpoonapit’s death are being investigated by the major crimes unit. Authorities are dedicated to uncovering the details surrounding this tragic event.
